The gap between where they were and where they needed to be.
MealMate had a 68% cart abandonment rate and a 2.1-star rating. Users found the app confusing, checkout took seven steps, and nothing felt personal. The business needed a full UX overhaul that reduced friction and brought people back — without losing the users it already had.

The strategy that gave the work somewhere to go.
Twenty-four user interviews and three rounds of usability testing pinpointed the real problem: a nine-field address form causing most drop-offs. Checkout was redesigned from seven steps to three, with smart autofill and a persistent cart. A 'For You' feed, built on order history and a 60-second taste quiz, made every return visit feel tailored.

The numbers that made the case for good design.
Online orders went from zero to accounting for 38% of weekly revenue within three months. Bounce rate fell from 81% to 29% as mobile usability improved. The owner now updates the site independently, and same-day delivery bookings fill most Fridays and weekends in advance.
