Waypoint — Municipal Transit App
Product Design

Three apps, one city, and no one getting where they needed to go.
A regional transit authority needed to replace three legacy apps — bus, tram, and bike-share — with a single unified experience serving commuters, tourists, elderly passengers, and people with disabilities. The app had to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and launch across iOS, Android, and a kiosk web version within seven months.

Designed with the people most likely to be left out.
Fourteen participants with diverse accessibility needs joined a six-week co-design programme, directly shaping font sizing, touch targets, and high-contrast mode. A single search interface combined bus, tram, and bike-share into multimodal routes — no app-switching needed. Offline UI states handled tunnel drop-outs with a calm cached map mode, keeping trust intact without live data.

On time, under budget, and usable by everyone.
The app passed all 78 WCAG 2.1 AA criteria on launch — the first transit app in the region to do so. Within 90 days, 340,000 users had migrated from the three old apps, with a journey planning task completion rate of 91%, up from a combined 67% across the legacy apps. The project delivered two weeks early and 8% under budget.
